IR Lab Move
Hospital Sant Pau
Laboratory moves are probably one of the most specialized tasks and require a greater degree of organization and planning from a logistical point of view. That is why, at Mudanzas Control, we offer comprehensive solutions at all levels of the move. The latest example is the relocation of laboratories at the Hospital de Sant Pau Research Institute (IIB Sant Pau) during the months of February, March and April 2019.
The project responded to an organizational need of the organization, since until then the different research groups were dispersed in various facilities of the Hospital campus. After the construction of a new, modern building that could house all the researchers, it was time to move.
The project has included the transfer of gas hoods, reagents, freezers and large equipment, as well as laser-calibrated equipment, among others. For the correct development of the work, we have had to apply the know-how acquired by our staff over more than 30 years by moving laboratories and maintaining close collaboration with the researchers and suppliers of each of the equipment. This is the only way to find the best packaging and transport method for each of the laboratory equipment.
Due to the complexity of the transfer in terms of accesses and passages in the original buildings, the operation had to be closely coordinated with the maintenance team of the Hospital de Sant Pau. This has meant that the works required to transport the large equipment have a lesser impact on users.
Temperature-controlled samples
In order to respond to the needs of the project, a specific traceability plan had to be drawn up for the transport of samples at temperatures of -80 degrees. This point was especially important given that the agency acts as a biobank for other entities, so it had to guarantee 100% of the quality of the samples contained in the freezers.
To ensure temperature-controlled transport, high-capacity isothermal containers and dataloggers have been used to record temperatures in real time, as well as data dumps after each transport. This, together with our work protocol, allows the traceability of the samples from the beginning of their transport to their placement in the freezer or destination chamber. Without this protocol, ongoing investigations would cease to have legal validity. For this reason, we comply with our work protocol exhaustively.
Transport of reagents
Having the training to enable the transport of hazardous materials has been another key to the transfer. Thanks to this, we have been able to develop packaging and emergency plans appropriate to the type and risk of each of the reactive products. Acting without intermediaries has allowed us to move the research groups in a compact way. Thus, moving all the equipment, documentation, samples and reagents of each laboratory together has made it possible to reduce the downtime of the research groups.
One-Stop Solution for Lab Moves
Thanks to the comprehensive laboratory transfer service, the inconvenience and downtime of each research group has been reduced to a minimum, thus achieving an efficient laboratory move.
With this move, the Research Institute of the Hospital de Sant Pau has been able to integrate the different groups of the organization in new facilities that have the latest technological advances, which allows for more efficient and safe operations. From Mudanzas Control we thank them for their trust and we wish them much success in the new laboratories at Calle San Quintín, 77-79 in Barcelona.
